Jamaican youngster Dujuan “Whisper” Richards made his AFC Wimbledon debut on Thursday night, and manager Johnnie Jackson was pleased with the impact the Chelsea loanee made after coming off the bench.

Richards was introduced in the 72nd minute of Wimbledon’s League One clash against MK Dons at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, replacing Ollie Harrison as Jackson looked for an attacking spark.

The 20-year-old quickly made his presence felt as Wimbledon pushed for a winning goal, although the match ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw.

Richards Creates Two Late Chances

Richards did not need long to get involved.

Six minutes after entering the game, the Jamaican delivered a cross into the box that found Jayden Stockley, but the Wimbledon striker was unable to finish from close range.

Richards was involved again moments later when his play helped create an opportunity for Steven Sessegnon. Sessegnon’s effort from inside the box was saved by MK Dons goalkeeper Will Dennis.

The two opportunities came as Wimbledon began to apply more pressure late in the match, with Richards providing additional pace and attacking movement on the right side.

Match reports noted that the Chelsea loanee was a bright spark after his introduction, while his cross nearly produced the breakthrough for Stockley.

Johnnie Jackson Praises Richards’ Impact

Speaking after the match, Jackson said he was pleased with Richards’ contribution and revealed that the youngster had already settled well into the Wimbledon squad during training.

“Really pleased. He’s been training well. He’s settled right in with the group,” Jackson said.

The Wimbledon boss also joked that Richards’ nickname might need some reconsideration after seeing a more vocal side of the Jamaican during his first few days with the team.

Jackson said Richards was “coming out of his shell” and felt the timing was right to introduce him to the action.

The manager explained that Wimbledon were chasing the win and wanted to make positive changes from the bench. He felt Richards helped shift the momentum back towards the home side and contributed to Wimbledon finishing the game with greater attacking pressure.

Jackson also highlighted the quality of Richards’ delivery that almost resulted in a goal, along with the combination play that created another good opportunity.

“Pleased with the impact from him and Zach from the bench,” Jackson said.

A Promising First Step For Richards

While Richards did not get on the scoresheet, his 18-minute cameo provided an early glimpse of what he could bring to Wimbledon during his season-long loan from Chelsea.

The Jamaican joined the Dons on September 1 after Chelsea agreed to send him to the League One club for the season. The move was designed to give the forward more opportunities for regular first-team football after a difficult period in his development.

Richards joined Chelsea in January 2024 and made a strong early impression with the club’s Under-21 side, scoring seven goals in 10 appearances during the second half of that season. His progress was later interrupted by a serious knee injury.

He returned to action before spending the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Championship club Leicester City, where he made a number of substitute appearances.

His move to Wimbledon therefore represents another opportunity to build regular senior experience and regain momentum in his development.

Wimbledon Continue Their Unbeaten Run

The goalless draw with MK Dons extended Wimbledon’s unbeaten league run to three matches.

Jackson’s side had entered the match after consecutive victories over Doncaster Rovers and Bromley, including a 2-0 away win at Bromley before returning home for the London-area rivalry clash with MK Dons.

Wimbledon created opportunities during Thursday’s match but could not find the decisive finish, leaving both sides with a point.

For Richards, however, the night provided an encouraging beginning to his Wimbledon loan spell.

After making an immediate attacking impact from the bench and earning praise from his manager, the Jamaican will now look to build on his debut and push for more minutes as the League One season continues.
