Jamaican international Dujuan “Whisper” Richards has a new opportunity to continue his development in English football after joining AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan from Premier League club Chelsea.
The 20-year-old forward was confirmed as Wimbledon’s latest signing on Tuesday, September 1, with the League One club bringing in the highly regarded Jamaican prospect for the 2026/27 campaign.
Richard’s reacted to the move saying, “right wing, you probably can get anything you want: Quick shooting, a bit of moves from time to time. I’m ready to do what it takes to be the fans favorite.”
The move gives Richards another chance to gain valuable first-team experience after spending part of the previous season with Leicester City in the Championship.
Richards Gets Another Chance To Impress In England
Richards joined Leicester on loan from Chelsea in February 2026 and made his professional debut shortly afterward in a Championship match against Birmingham City.
It was a significant moment for the Jamaican, who had spent much of his time in England developing with Chelsea’s Under-21 setup. Before joining Leicester, Richards had already shown his goalscoring ability at youth level, scoring seven times in 10 appearances for Chelsea Under-21s during the second half of the 2023/24 season.
Now, his move to AFC Wimbledon provides another opportunity to get regular senior football under his belt and continue adapting to the demands of the English game.
A Jamaican Talent With International Experience
Richards has been on Jamaica’s football radar since his teenage years. After developing at the Phoenix Allstars Football Academy, he earned his senior Reggae Boyz debut in 2023 at just 17 years old.
Later that year, he made Jamaican football history at the CONCACAF Gold Cup when he scored against Trinidad and Tobago to become the youngest player to score in the tournament.
Richards came off the bench during Jamaica’s 4-1 victory and found the net in stoppage time, sending a low shot toward goal that took a deflection before ending up in the net. The goal made him the youngest scorer in Gold Cup history at the time.
That early international breakthrough helped establish Richards as one of Jamaica’s promising young attacking players.

At 20, Richards is entering an important stage of his career. The talent that first attracted Chelsea remains evident, but regular senior football will be crucial as he looks to turn that potential into consistent performances at the professional level.
