Jamaica’s Oblique Seville continued his impressive 2026 season with another dominant performance in the men’s 100 metres at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Seville won the first men’s 100m semifinal in a swift 9.90 seconds, securing his place in the championship final.
The Jamaican sprinter produced the fastest performance in his semifinal, holding off a strong field that included some of the biggest names in global sprinting.
Seville Leads Star-Studded Semifinal
Botswana’s Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo crossed the line second in 9.95 seconds, while American sprint star Christian Coleman finished third in 9.96 seconds.
South Africa’s Gift Leotlela took the fourth and final qualifying position in 10.03 seconds.
The result adds another sub-10-second performance to what has been a standout year for Seville.
The 25-year-old Jamaican has already established himself as one of the leading 100m sprinters in the world, including a 9.83-second victory at the Silesia Diamond League meeting in August.
Seville Among the Main Stars in Budapest
The Ultimate Championship is a new World Athletics event designed to bring many of the sport’s biggest stars together in a high-stakes competition.
The inaugural edition is taking place in Budapest from September 11 to 13, 2026, with a total prize purse of approximately US$10 million. Individual event winners are set to receive US$150,000.
Seville entered the competition as one of the major contenders in the men’s 100m, and his semifinal performance has strengthened his position heading into the final.
With another major international final now secured, Jamaican fans will be watching closely to see if Seville can turn his semifinal victory into another major championship triumph.
